Flowey VS The Princess (UnderTale VS Slay the Princess)
"In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing." - Thomas Carlyle
Flowey, the flower!
The Princess, the... princess!
One of the most iconic matchups for both nowadays. I know it, you know it, and most of us all enjoy Flowey VS The Princess. But was it always that way? was there ever a point where this wasn't interesting to talk about? what if we took them at their earliest stages physically possible, and found out who would win a DEATH BATTLE!
Before We Begin
This blog will exclusively be analysing the iterations of both these characters from only each game's respective demos (and released pre-release content created before each game's releases). This blog idea was inspired by NewHorizonsDB's Mario VS Kirby, which exclusively used NES and GameBoy iterations of both. That blog is a very good read and I highly recommend you check it out. (also shoutout to Hallownest's Blogs who are actually doing this matchup for real lol, go check that out when it releases)
To clarify: anything that is "beta content" is fairgame, so anything that technically released after the full games talking about pre-release content will also be allowed, which also includes any scrapped content, though any finalized content will be discluded.
Background
Flowey the Flower

Long ago, two races ruled over Earth; HUMANS, and MONSTERS. One day, war broke out between the two races, with the humans ending up victorious. They sealed the monsters underground with a powerful spell, forever trapping them under Mt. Ebott. Legends say that those who climb the mountain would never return, though that didn't stop a young child in the year 201X from climbing the mountain, before tripping on a loose vine, and falling directly into the Underworld.
Thankfully, this child's fall was cushioned by a bed of golden flowers, though they'd meet another flower in just the next room over. His name was Flowey, Flowey the Flower! He would explain the rules of the Underground to the child, and how "LOVE" was spread through little white "Friendliness Pellets", though this was all but a trick to destroy the child's SOUL.
Luckily, the child would be saved by the caretaker of the Ruins, Toriel. While Toriel would show the child through the small section of the Underground she looked over, Flowey would follow behind, waiting until the perfect opportunity to meet the human child again. As the child would leave the Ruins, their choices impacting the state it would be in afterwards. Flowey would let them know he was there, and he would make sure they knew his power.
What happens next? I have no idea! Just wait until September 15 2015 for the full game to release!
...wait what do you mean it's already out??
The Princess

You're on a path in the woods. And at the end of that path, is a cabin. And in the basement of that cabin, is a Princess. You're here to slay her, and she'll lie, cheat, and do everything in her power to make sure you fail. You are the only one with the power to put an end to her, with you being the Hero of this story. Words spoken by "The Narrator", someone adamant about your mission of finding the Princess and eradicating her. Though it's the only way to move forward, so you move on regardless.
In the first room of the Cabin, a Pristine Blade resides, choosing to pick it up changing the upcoming events drastically, though regardless of choice, you'd end up face to face with The Princess, locked in the basement, a chain binding her to the wall. Regardless of what happens next, her voice is beautiful, alluring you as she (very understandably) goes against the idea you need to kill her.
You may converse for a while, or you may immediately try and fight her, though no matter what happens, eventually everything goes dark, and you die. This wouldn't be the end, however. You would wake up once again on a path in the woods, with there being another Cabin, and a new Princess. Conspiring about a sense of Deja Vu, you march forward and come face to face with a brand new Princess, already eager to see you again.
What happens next? I have no idea! Just wait until October 23 2023 for the full game to release!
...what do you mean it's also already out???
Experience & Skill
Flowey the Flower

Flowey is experienced with the inner workings of the Underworld, giving a faux tutorial and showing knowledge on LOVE. He's also the only enemy smart enough to just make an undodgeable attack by surrounding you with bullets Friendliness Pellets. He has also shown extensive fourth wall knowledge, being able to manipulate external files like the Instruction Booklet, and even hack into the official UnderTale Twitter account.
He is also a decent manipulator, his strategy starting out with pretending to be a weak friendly flower, only to immediately go for the kill when an opportunity arises. He's also able to recognise when the Human restarts from a SAVE, and can use this to guilt trip or threaten them. (plus it's also possible he originates from the EarthBound Halloween Hack)
The Princess

The very first thing you learn about the Princess herself; she will lie, she will cheat, and she will do everything in her power to stop you from slaying her. Despite her (sometimes) helpless appearing exterior, she's able to easily overpower and defeat the Hero despite being at a major disadvantage. Sweeping your legs, catching your attacks or misdirecting you to escape the basement. She's also been able to wield the Pristine Blade, slitting your throat with cynical ease. She also has the smarts to play out her own death to sneakily stab you when you're least expecting it.
The Princess has also been referenced as being able to easily trap you into her web of lies when going in intending to hear her out, with even going in without any intent to hear her out still causing you to tremble with her presence alone.
Arsenal
Flowey the Flower
"Friendliness Pellets"

Flowey is capable of creating small bullets pellets to attack the Human with. Able to shoot them out at you or surround you entirely with zero chance of escaping, unless someone else decides to intercept the attack to heal you instead.
The Princess
Knife

When selecting choices questioning whether or not she has a blade, she gains the ability to pull a small knife out from her sleeves. This knife can of course, stab real good.
The Pristine Blade

Should you bring the Pristine Blade down to her and allow the Princess to hold it, she can pry it from your hands and use it for herself. Given she can also leave the basement given enough time, she can also theoretically just go upstairs and pick it up herself should she choose to.
Powers & Abilities
Flowey the Flower
Plant Physiology

Flowey is, of course, a flower. He can pull himself into the ground and pop out at any desired location.
SOUL Manipulation

(official art by Gigi)
Flowey's attacks are all capable of attacking the soul directly, each and every monster present within the world being able to do the same. Asgore, another monster, is actively seeking SOULs to collect for an unknown reason.
Determination

UNDERTALE actually utilizes fourth wall elements as a part of its worldbuilding, with tropes like "SAVING", "EXP" and "LV" all existing within the story as a part of another ability called "Determination." Flowey specifically references how he used to hold the power to SAVE, though the Human's own Determination overwrote his own.
Those with Determination are able to create SAVE Files at SAVE Points around the map, which are manifestations of your own Determination. SAVE Points fill you with Determination and fully heal you when interacted with. Those with Determination also passively have a peaceful aura around them, which they can send out at an opponent to instantly get them to give up if they're questioning their desires, which can also work by just spamming it over and over.
Magic / Creation

Monsters are capable of creating magical attacks to hurl at their enemies. Flowey specifically creates "Friendliness Pellets", though other monsters are capable of creating things like lemonade or vegetables. Flowey has also shown the capability to manipulate the battle box itself, restricting movement for his opponent.
Minor Shapeshifting

Flowey has shown the ability to transform his face however he needs, even being able to make it super large, or imitate the face of someone he's met.
Data Manipulation / Fourth Wall Interaction

In the Instruction Manual, Flowey was able to vandalize one of the pages to obscure all of the text apart from "Friendliness Pellets". After completing the Demo, he's also able to change the final page of the Instruction Manual depending on what ending you got. He was also able to hack the official UnderTale Twitter account days before the game's release, and can also make sure you never get a good night's sleep again through an alarm clock app, with other instances of interacting with the fourth wall as well.
The Princess
Manipulation

As a way of ensuring her own survival, The Princess is able to easily manipulate you, causing you to tremble from her presence even when actively not listening to her. Her voice alone has been described as hypnotic, with specializing in getting her opponent to hesitate before attacking to give her an advantage in the fight ahead, even being able to convince them she can't die. Though best case scenario she'll convince you to help her escape.
Fourth Wall Interaction

In an early trailer for Slay the Princess, The Princess was able to see and interact with the Narrator, despite the Narrator only existing as text appearing on the screen.
Resurrection

When selecting choices that question whether the Princess has died, she shows the ability to resurrect herself, though not healing herself from her own wounds as she still succumbs to them later. She has also shown the ability to come back after death in a new form, though this is only activated when the death of her opponent arrives.
Fear Manipulation / Paralysis Inducement / Biological Manipulation

Should you choose to keep the Princess locked in the basement, she'll get super pissed off about it. Turning into a terrifying, grotesque version of herself so frightening she can literally scare you to death just by approaching. Her presence able to blur your vision, induce paralysis and shut down your organs.
Forms
Flowey the Flower
Uhhhhhhhh

I'm scared
Boss Flowey

Utilizing the previous human SOULs, Flowey can transform into a "boss form". We don't see much beta content of this form (later stuff from the Art Book is more "finished" so not being included), though it can apparently summon tanks and nuclear bombs.
The Princess
The Adversary

Gotten after an intense fight with the Princess that ultimately leaves you both dead. The Adversary is obsessed with fighting you, and much more physically imposing, looking as if she could rip off her chains without a second thought (which, even the Princess she evolved from could do, so there is credit to this statement). This Princess has demonic elements to her design, as a contrast to The Tower's more angelic elements, which makes sense given they used to share a form known as "The Fury".
This Princess is capable of evolving further into... The Fury. Taking the namesake of the old design for this form, and is likely further comparable to The Tower. The Fury furthers the demonic aspects of The Adversary, taking form of a fallen god, and being more of a brawler as well. She also has another form she's capable of evolving into, a more draconic devil form less meant to be a fall from the Tower's grace but more of a direct evolution to rival her.
The Beast

Originally sharing a route with "The Witch". The Princess turns into some sort of animalistic creature, never fully visible due to hiding in the shadows. With her full form, she's mostly a mix of different animals, not fully comprehensible on what she is when only seeing parts of her. She also has very keen senses, being able to hear your heartbeat and smell the Hero from the top of the basement stairs, along with likely being comparable to The Witch (due to originally being the same Princess), who could hear the Hero walking up the path of the woods while inside the cabin. Her basement is covered in plant life, which allows her to hide extraordinarily well.
This Princess can also evolve into "The Den", a more mythical "queen of the forest" evolution over the "base" Beast. This form is akin to a questing beast you'd face in a video-game.
The Damsel

Selecting choices which attempt to save the Princess will cause her to turn into The Damsel. A "damsel in distress" based on manga art, who can deconstruct herself into different art styles all the way down to 8-Bit Pixels. Despite how the route she comes from involves the Princess defending herself quite well, she still mostly just cares about the player, which is technically more of a "de-evolution" in a combat sense, even though her voice is described as more hypnotic than before.
The Nightmare

After attempting to lock the Princess in the basement, she'll get super mad at you, her presence alone inducing paralysis, getting stronger the closer she is to you, starting from your feet and making its way up until you simply die. After this, she evolves into "The Nightmare", a black fog following behind her, with her ability to induce fear enhanced as well, along with her presence always flickering in and out. Her cabin is filled with eyes, always watching as a manifestation of the fear of being watched, along with an infinite black void within which she can seemingly manipulate.
The Prisoner

Gotten after attempting to free the Princess with the blade, only for the Narrator to take control over your body and have the Princess slay you. This form is mostly just an even more restricted version of the Chapter 1 Princess, not much else to note (though metal chains do make for a good blunt weapon if needed)
What IS more notable however is how this Princess can evolve further into a new form known as "The Cage". A more knightly appearance with her head detached from her body and kept safe within a cage.
The Razor

Gotten after the Princess stabs you to death with a hidden knife. The Razor hides many knives within her skin, being able to pop them out at any moment, though it does have to pierce through her own skin first. She may try and deceive you, though at this stage her manipulation attempts are comically bad, making it painfully obvious she only wants to stab you. The Razor is also capable of evolving further, into a more abstract form made purely of blades compared to the Hero's very own Pristine Blade.
The Spectre

Gotten after slaying the Princess without a second thought. The Spectre is, of course, a g-g-g-ghost! Able to phase through walls incorporeally, levitate over the ground, and change her face into a scarier, more skeletal form, though only when she wants to.
The Stranger

By refusing to even enter the Cabin (even after starting other routes), the Princess will turn into a weird fleshy mass, seemingly a skinsuit containing a hive of bugs within. Her cabin is much more... abstract, mostly just appearing as a pencil drawing from within.
The Tower

Originally part of "The Adversary" as "The Fury", by selecting choices that cause the Princess to dominate you in a fight gives you this form. The Tower is divine, with angelic motifs and extreme power, shown off by her extreme height which has been compared to a skyscraper. Artworks show her towering over forests, clouds surrounding her and trees being pulled from the ground to orbit around her, eventually including the Cabin as well. She has also shown the ability to control the bodies of others regardless of if they choose to rebel against her. Her cabin is absolutely massive, mostly just to accommodate for her own large size.
The Witch

Originally a part of "The Beast", selecting choices which involve you betraying the Princess' trust gives you this form. The Witch has superhuman senses, able to hear you walking up the forest path while locked in the basement, and is likely comparable to The Beast (due to them technically being the same Princess, at least for the purposes of this blog), who can smell the Hero from the top of her basement stairs, and can hear your heartbeat. The basement of her Cabin is covered in roots, with an active fire in the centre causing the dirt walls to glisten.
It is possible for this Princess to further evolve into "The Wild". A semi-corporeal forest spirit which incorporates the wood from the Cabin basement into its body. Not much else is known about this iteration of The Wild.
"End Game" Form

After about 5-6 evolutions of The Princess, she evolves into her "end game" form, a final evolution based on the route taken since the start. Not much of this is known (the burden of being a concept that was scrapped early), though each route has a specific final form, with the motif of angelic wings and being surrounded by Princesses is present throughout. With another form of the "end game" form being able to manipulate chains, along with having a lot of eyes.
Resistances
Flowey the Flower

The Princess

Feats
Flowey the Flower
Overall

- Idk we've barely seen him do anything yet lmao
Power

- Nearly oneshotted the human child, likely intentionally leaving them at 1HP
- Is in possession of "Determination", which can allow you to reshape the entire world if you have the most of it
- Has a plan to "destroy everything in this wretched world"
- Boss Flowey can summon Little Boy bombs (15 Kilotons of TNT)
- Restrained multiple monsters at once
Durability

- Inanimate flowers endured a child falling on top of them from on top of a mountain
- Survived a fireball from Toriel
Speed

- Reacts to Toriel's fireball at the literal last second
- Quickly goes underground before the human child can notice them
The Princess
Overall

- Idk we've barely seen her do anything yet lmao
Power

- Is stated to be able to destroy "everything as we know it" (555.2 Petatons of TNT) [See Before the Verdict]
- Has had her punched been compared to a blow from a sledgehammer, and as "bone crushing"
- Ripped chains from the Cabin wall (42.8 Tons of Force)
- Broke the Hero's arm with a single hand (375 Joules - 9.92 Kilojoules)
- Can rip into flesh and sever arteries with unnaturally sharp teeth and claws
- Her kicks have been compared to a pickaxe, fracturing bones with each strike
- Beta Tower is really large (0.64 Tons - 8.9 Kilotons of TNT)
Durability

Speed

- Caught a strike from The Hero
- Has been stated to be fast
- Dodged a strike from The Hero without even looking
- The Tower's size would make her way faster than a regular person (Mach 1.07 - 11.6)
Weaknesses
Flowey the Flower

From the little we see of him, we can tell Flowey is cocky, along with having a short temper. Showcased when his façade immediately drops after The Human only dodges a few attacks from him. The fact he's also a flower is also probably not very helpful in most scenarios.
The Princess

For as many forms which improve the Princess' combat applicability, there are also forms that hamper her ability to fight. Choosing to just immediately slay the Princess without listening to her also nullifies her manipulation, along with how her resurrection/transformations only apply after the death of her opponent. The fact she's chained to a wall also isn't very helpful in most scenarios.
Scaling
Flowey the Flower
The Human

Upon their first meeting, Flowey was able to nearly immediately kill the Human, seemingly only slightly holding back for the sake of keeping them alive for a moment. Therefore he should be comparable to their feats.
- Survived a fall into the Underground (40.88 Kilojoules)
- Pushed a large rock (0.443 Tons of Force)
- Endures repeated hits from every other Monster
- Can oneshot Toriel
- Other humans were able to create a seal around Mt. Ebott, trapping all of monsterkind underground
- Moved in tandem with lightning in the Greenlight trailer (Mach 2145.77)
- In an older beta, is able to wield the Planet Buster, which is able to destroy planets, galaxies and even universes with a single blow (2x Universal, 5.87 Quintillion c) [See Before the Verdict]
The Underground (Monsters)

After their initial run-in with Flowey, the Human can encounter and fight a variety of monsters within the Underground. Given Flowey was able to nearly instantly kill the Human with a single attack, more damage than any other monster has been seen to do, Flowey should be comparable to or superior than most every other monster they face.
The Princess
The Hero

The Hero, despite being on a path in the woods specifically to slay the Princess, does consistently get overpowered by said Princess in most of the routes. Along with the Princess being able to keep up with his attacks most of the time, and it being stated it would be difficult to slay her without a weapon, she should be comparable. (plus she can use his knife)
- Can slay the Princess before she can react
- The Narrator sends The Cabin deep into space as The Hero slays the Princess (251.03 - 736.34 Trillion c) [See Before the Verdict]
- Perceived decades worth of time within the span of a single sentence (2.3c) [See Before the Verdict]

Flowey the Flower
Beta Asriel??

So, you may have noticed a lack of a certain goat in Flowey's forms, which may be surprising given Asriel does have a LOT of pre-release/beta/cut content. Unfortunately, with the gimmick of this blog, applying Asriel as a form would be difficult.
To give an answer as to why this is, it'll need to be made clear what the "perspective" of this blog even is, or just a further elaboration of the rules. The perspective of this blog is being made as if both are analysed before their games are released, along with any content made before the release only to be cut later. Anything only known from the perspective of the final game (I.E. Flowey and Asriel being the same person) is thus not being accounted for. Technically any version of the game before the game's release does contain "beta content", like for example the leaked v0.99.5 release for Undertale, though this falls under the description of "finalized" content, along with not officially being released.
The only thing connecting Flowey to Asriel with purely demo builds and beta content is a description from Toby of the pre-Asriel cutscene being before the Asriel fight, though this doesn't give an answer as to what happens after Flowey captures everyone and before the Asriel fight happens, along with not directly saying how Flowey would achieve this form even then compared to Boss Flowey being stated to utilize the 6 Human SOULs for his form. Similar standards were held to the Princess, most of her vessels technically have beta content, though a lot of them are no different from their final versions, and thus only cut versions will be used (like Boss Flowey's Little Boy bombs and The Cage being a knight). The Demos for both games are seen as exceptions to the "finalized content" rule, along with an unofficial leaked beta version being taken into account already being dubious enough (along with being a complete copout and super lame).
tl;dr: this is exclusively looking at pre-release content, no outside knowledge will be taken into account, sadly meaning Azzy won't be accounted for in the verdict.
The Planet Buster??

Within Undertale's Art Book, we see concept art of the Human wielding a weapon called "The Planet Buster". This is a reference to Brandish 2: The Planet Buster, which Toby mentions underneath the screenshot. The weapon is seen giving the Human an ATK stat of 90, along with this being at the very start of the game. The name alone implies the ability to bust a planet, though we can get more of an idea analysing Toby's other works which use this same weapon.
Within Toby Fox's "EarthBound Halloween Hack", you play as Varik, the main protagonist of Brandish 2, wielding the same weapon "Planet Buster". In this game, the weapon is described as not only able to destroy planets, but galaxies and even universes with a single swing. The description alone would make this weapon be 2x over baseline universal (though not the same as 2x Universal+) due to being able to destroy "universes". Analyzing the distance it would need to cover in a single swing (2x the diameter of the universe) would mean the weapon would be attacking at a speed of 5.8 Quintillion x lightspeed. Flowey does seemingly appear in the Halloween Hack (though likely more as an inspiration from his appearance here), and the level of power should be consistent in both games regardless due to them being made by the same guy, and giving us a view on how powerful Toby sees this weapon.
As for how anyone scales, the fact the weapon gives the Human an ATK stat of 90 alone is enough to have a method of scaling, with Toriel having an ATK and DEF stat of 80, and the Human being capable of surviving attacks from and damaging her, with Flowey being able to do much greater damage in a single blow. This will still be seen as a high end, due to being massively higher than every other feat within the Demo and pre-release content.
The Princess
Can She Do That??

The Narrator claims that the Princess is going to end the world, with him elaborating on this by describing it as "no more birds, no more trees, and no more people." This implies what she will do is flattening the surface of the earth, which is a feat that has been calculated and estimated before, reaching around 555 Petatons of TNT.
The issue with this feat is, the game makes it very clear it's unlikely this is through physical means, and is more likely through some means not even the Princess herself knows. Some other forms are stronger to where you could justify them maybe being able to pull it off physically, though it would have to be overtime to a point where it wouldn't be much of a feat to be notable anymore. The closest assumption we can make is that the means to do this are locked behind her true form, though this could be seen as somewhat contradictory, it's the only assumption we can make within the lens this blog is taking over the game, and thus the one which will be assumed.
FTL Hero??

The Hero has two FTL feats attributed him. Starting with the faster one, The Narrator (a voice in the Hero's head) places the Cabin holding the player and the Princess' dead body into deep space, far away from anyone. This would be legitimate, though there's little implying the Hero (let alone the dead Princess) can scale to this physically, along with them not noticing this happening, implying a form of teleportation/warping rather than actual movement.
The second is a little more complicated. The feat here is the Hero perceiving decades worth of time within a couple seconds. What's notable is a considerable amount of time definitely passes given the Princess' body is seen decomposing, which means at least around a dozen years have passed. The issue is we can't tell exactly if this is a feat done by the Hero, whether it's the Narrator using some form of time manipulation (like an esoteric ability like how the Cabin was sent into space) or just plain cinematic timing. This feat also only happens if you make a specific set of actions where the Princess is unable to react to your attack, so her even scaling to it then would still be highly dubious.

Conclusion
Flowey the Flower
"You idiot. In this world, it's kill or BE killed. Why would ANYONE pass up an opportunity like this!? DIE."
The Princess

"I'm almost embarrassed. I should have seen that coming. But... I have to wonder... Do you actually believe this was enough to kill me?"
Final Vote
In this beta fight, Flowey turned out to be the alpha, with the slain Princess having been delta bad hand, thus crowning him... the sigma... this joke sucks I'm sorry...
The Winner is Demo Flowey!

...hey you didn't just skip to the end to see who won, right?
(this is just a silly April Fools blog I don't actually care if you did lol)
